Legacy Greens is for sale - an interview with Jordan

Legacy Greens is for sale - an interview with Jordan

Q: Legacy Greens has been part of downtown Kitchener for 10 years. Why sell now?
Jordan: I've honestly been thinking about what's next for a few years now. In celebrating our 10th anniversary, I've hit a personal milestone, and the timing just feels right. I'm most excited to dive into something new. I would love to enter a new industry and make an impact to community in a different way. My curiosity is jumping around right now from modular homes, to health-tech, to nature tourism.

Q: What have you enjoyed about your job over the last 10 years.
Jordan: The first 2 years of Legacy Greens were an enormous amount of fun. When everything is new, it is really exciting. We saw a lot of growth in those first few years, and I was definitely a yes person. I really excelled then to take risks and explore what customers were gravitating toward. On a day-to-day level, I still really enjoy this job. I love going to the Elmira Produce Auction to bid on in-season fruits and vegetables.  I enjoy searching out new grocery and gift products that would be a fit for the store. I love recruiting people to work for me and leading a small and motivated team. And more recently, I really love flowers! I love making beautiful little bouquets and shopping the wholesale flower truck as it pulls up in front of the store. My job is very diverse and I can change what I do as I move through different seasons of my life. If I get bored of something, I can delegate it to a member of my team, and then switch to something else. I find myself moving from front of house (customer service/social media) to back of house (kitchen/pick ups/admin) depending on my social battery. It's so nice to have that kind of flexibility and control over my role.

Q: What makes Legacy Greens a unique opportunity for a buyer?
Jordan: We have a beautiful space at 18 Ontario Street North, complete with a liquor license, a commercial kitchen, and a walk-in cooler. The shop is in the heart of downtown, surrounded by cafés, salons, event spaces, and year-round cultural activity. Beyond the physical space, we’ve built a strong digital presence: nearly 8,500 Instagram followers, 900 newsletter subscribers, and next-day online ordering on our website. But most of all, the customer base at Legacy Greens is loyal and enthusiast. We have the best customers!

Q: What kind of buyer do you imagine taking this on?
Jordan: Someone entrepreneurial who is excited about food and community. It could be a chef who wants a ready-made retail arm, or someone passionate about local food systems who wants to continue our vendor relationships. Honestly, the space is flexible enough that a buyer could lean more heavily into grocery, floral, boutique retail, or even wine and beer sales. Currently the revenue streams are very diversified, and someone could keep it that way. Or they might want to dive further into something specific. Whoever takes it over, I look forward to being a future customer! I think the most important thing is passion. When a business owner is passionate about their products and services, it's absolutely contagious and customers love that!

Q: What comes with the sale?
Jordan: The sale includes everything you need to run the store — refrigeration units, shelving, point-of-sale systems, kitchen equipment, and brand assets. There’s also a detailed procedure manual and maintenance contacts to make the transition smoother. Buyers can choose to take on the existing inventory or start fresh. On top of that, you get the brand’s reputation: a 4.9-star Google rating, strong social presence, and a decade worth of customer's previous experiences and buying habits.

Q: Will you still be involved after the sale?
Jordan: Yes — at least in the short term. I’m committed to helping with the transition, introducing the new owner to our systems and suppliers, plus making sure they feel confident stepping into the role.

Q: Anything else you’d like to say to the community?
Jordan: I really love Downtown Kitchener! I've been so lucky these past few years to be nestled between Lucero Canteen and Marlowe General. Ontario Street has such a great vibe right now and I love it. I love laughing with my customers, being part of their milestones and developing real connections. 10 years ago I was completely new to this community, and I feel so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life. I have no plans to relocate elsewhere, so you'll still likely bump into me downtown!
